Epynt Members Enjoy a Busy Summer of Rallying
It has certainly been a busy summer for Epynt Motor Club members, with competitors representing the Club on forest stages, sealed-surface rallies, road rallies and Targas across Wales.
From the forests around Epynt and Crychan to the asphalt of Pembrey and the famous military ranges, Club members have been putting in the miles as both drivers and navigators – with class wins, strong overall finishes and plenty of stories along the way.
The final weekend of June saw Kieran Price back on the maps for the PK Memorial Rally, one of the summer rounds of the Welsh Road Rally Championship. The event ran over approximately 80 miles of classic North Wales roads around Bala and the Rhug Estate. Kieran was among the Epynt members continuing to fly the flag in the very competitive Welsh road rally scene.
Nicky Grist Stages
Closer to home, July brought one of the biggest gravel rallies of the year to Builth Wells.
The Nicky Grist Stages on 11 July attracted a huge field to 44 competitive miles in Monument, Crychan, Halfway and Route 60. Jordan Hone and Sion Williams ultimately took the overall victory after a hot and dusty day in the forests. The organisers later thanked the large team of volunteers who kept the event running safely in particularly warm conditions, with Epynt members also involved in supporting the event.
Epynt members Liam Griffiths, Callum Griffiths and William Lewis were among the names associated with the Club's stage-rally championship activity during this part of the season, continuing the Griffiths brothers' strong presence in Welsh forest rallying.
The event's organisers also made the action available afterwards through Special Stage TV's Facebook and YouTube coverage, giving competitors and supporters another opportunity to relive the stages.
The final weekend in July brought competitors back onto home territory for the two-day Ynyscynon MOT Centre Tour of Epynt.
One of the standout Epynt performances came from Dan Petrie, co-driving for Brad Cole in the Ford Fiesta Rally2. The pair were right at the sharp end throughout the weekend and finished a superb 4th overall and 1st in Class 1.
Get Connected Mewla Rally
The summer culminated on 30 August with the Club's own Get Connected Mewla Rally.
The 2026 event was a significant one for Epynt Motor Club, with approximately 50 competitive miles across the military range and adjoining closed public roads. It attracted competitors from the Welsh Tarmacadam, King of Epynt, ANWCC and Heart of England championships.
And there was plenty of Epynt interest among the crews.
Daniel Petrie and Callum Morris teamed up in Daniel's Peugeot 106 and produced a strong run to finish 18th overall and 5th in Class 7.
Martin Lasper, with Lilia Innes in the navigator's seat, also produced an excellent result. Their Vauxhall Nova came home 33rd overall and 2nd in Class 9.
There was disappointment elsewhere. Helena Mayall, navigating for Andy Brinkley in the BMW M3 retired during the event.
The rally itself produced a dramatic finish at the front, with Thomas Cooper and Sarah Edwards winning by only six seconds after difficult conditions on the ranges. It provided a fitting end to a packed summer of competition and another major event successfully delivered by Epynt Motor Club.
