August 9th Autotest Report

The 2nd Autotest of 2015 was held at the Ceri Davies' farm near Llanwrtyd Wells on the 9th of August. There was a good entry of 13 drivers to start the day in damp slippy conditions. Leading after the 1st 2 Tests was Cameron Davies in his Nissan Micra, Ceri Davies was just 1 second behind in his Nissan Micra. Nick Powell was just 5 seconds behind them in his Citroen Saxo.

Cameron Davies carried on to win the day by 27 seconds in his Micra; Ceri Davies came home with 2nd in his Micra the gap would have been closer had it not been for a cone penalty on the 7th test. Seems home advantage didn't play to him and handbrake working better on 1 side than the other lost some time....apparently!

Nick Powell managed 3rd despite a cone penalty but generally had a good day, his times picked up towards the latter part of the event and just 5 seconds behind Ceri at the end it could have been very different.

Ryan Davies had a slow start to the day lying 7th after the first 2 tests however with his drastic weight loss program (with the help of the odd barn door) he put on some impressive times near the end of the event, despite picking up a wrong test on test 5 and 2 punctures on test 7 (on the same side!) he came back to 4th overall and 1st in the Standard Production Class.

5th Went to Morian Peters who struggled with the conditions to get the Civic to handle right and put down the power, A wrong test on test 5 and a slow time on 6 scuppered his chances for a repeating a previous win at the venue but had a clean run never the less.

Bradley Davies shared Camerons winning car and had a cracking day up until the last test where a wrong test dropped him from 4th to 6th however he still picked up a very good 1st in the Novice Class and good consistency showed throughout the day.

7th was Ben Gwillym who showed pace however a few cone penalties and a wrong test hampered his efforts, 8th was Luke Heath again using the winning Micra and built up has pace throughout the day, a slow start however and a couple of wrong tests cost time. Anthony Deans didn't quite have the same luck as he had at Powell's farm and his Puma was not 100% by the end of the day, Handbrake cables were a bit loose and with no handbrake he dropped a lot of time on the long test 7 this costing any chance of a good position for him, see what happens when you get a test without the stops in buildings! Haha.

10th was the great sounding BMW of David Evans, usually a drift car he took his car out for a spin and many spins he had, size may have been an issue for the big BMW in comparison with the Micras and a few more dents were added, a general lack of grip hampering the car in the small yard.

11th was an impressive debut to motorsport for Jak Canham and despite a slow start to the event he gained pace throughout the day and more importantly kept Ceri's Micra in one piece!

2 Retirements in the day the 1st of which was Ben Davies who dropped out in the lunch break after test 4 whilst lying 4th O/A quite an achievement considering the size of the BMW! The other was Geoff Harper who retired after 6 tests using the car to enjoy the event and do some testing ahead of more rallying.

Thanks to the organisers for putting on the event and the Ceri Davies for the use of the farm a great venue.
