A total of 13 Crews turned up (perhaps a new record for Epynt Motor Club navscatters?!) with plenty of new faces to find a total of 33 references. With 30 minutes plotting time for novices and 0 minutes for experts some frowns from Kate Elias were shown as one of only two expert crews out. As the crews set off in all different directions into the darkness the long wait for the organisers started. 1hr 30mins later crews started to come back and the results were announced. First Overall were Ceri “Multi-Skilled!” Davies and Sian Davies in their Micra which was a second win for the young navigator with Ceri winning the first expert driver award. Second overall were Roger “ooo look at the coloured lights” Stevens and Brian Jones with Brian wondering if Roger would even make it to the start in his Passat. Third were new members Chris “CSI” Turner and Martin Pilbeam in the Focus with Chris getting the first novice driver award. In fourth place were Gareth Owen and Jon Drury in a Saxo. Fifth were Martin Lasper and Daniel Bufton who were flying in an Astra Van with huge grins on their faces! Sixth were Aled Harries and Natalie Poulson in a Puma, seventh were Ben Davies and Kate Elias in a 206 and eighth were John Williams and Steve Lawrence in a 205. In ninth place were Joe Parry and Craig Jones in another 205 whose luck was cut short by a snapped alternator belt which meant they had to come back early but not a moment too soon judging by the dim lights! Tenth were Sam Coley and Toby Gordon in his MG ZR, eleventh were Jon and Jamie Hawkins in an Avenger who had to cut back very early having wished that somebody had put fuel in the car beforehand! Twelfth were Huw James and Ian Davies in a nicely turned out Escort Mexico and thirteenth were Dan Price and Graham Tong who were doing extremely well for Dan's first Scatter and Graham's first scatter for several years until they went OTL. Sorry to those who were unfortunate enough to see the keen marshals, there are only so many times you can play “I Spy”! Everybody returned back safely to some warm food and drink at the finish with many drivers enjoying the roads. Thanks to people who assisted the organisers, you know who you are, the Marshals, everybody at the Bridge End Inn for hosting it and finally to all who took part. Cheers Jon Hawkins Results: 1. The five crews had to find a total of twenty-five clues in the Llandovery, Llanwrda and Cilycwm area. Finishing in first place were the father and daughter pairing of Ceri and Sian Davies in their Nissan Micra. Sian must be the youngest competitor ever to win a navscatter and on only her second event! Finishing in second place was Ben Davies and Kate Elias, in a Renault Clio. Aled Harries and Natalie Paulson finished in third place despite getting the Fiesta stuck in a field. In fourth position were old stagers Hughie James and Ian Davis making a comeback in a recently purchased historic Escort Mexico. Completing the top five were Dwylan Price and Louise Lewis in a Peugeot 206. Out of the five competing crews, four of the navigators were girls – are the boys too scared of being beaten I wonder?! The next navscatter, the last round before the summer break, will be held on Thursday 15th April, starting from the Bridge Inn, Llyswen. Maps 160 and 161 will be needed. Results: 1. There were twenty-two references in total which were to be found on the forty two-mile route that took in Abbeycwmhir, Llandewi, Llandegley and finishing near Rhayader. On a tricky section between Llanwrthwl and Dolfallon Bridge with a couple of whites thrown in for good measure. As the crews left the start it began to freeze causing a few hairy moments according to the crews at the finish where they all enjoyed a well deserved snack and a drink. First overall were Graham Davies and Clive Meredith who claimed the first expert driver and first novice navigator awards. Malcolm Hawkins won the first novice driver award with Alun Probert picking up the award for first expert navigator. Ashley Morris and I would like to thank all the competing crews.
