This bank holiday weekend sees the annual running of the EventSigns Mewla Rally organised by Epynt Motor Club.
The event begins on Saturday 24th August with scrutineering and signing-on from 3pm onwards. This will be held at the Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells, where rally headquarters is based.
Eleven stages providing over 80 competitive stage miles will be run on the Epynt Ranges on Sunday 25th August. The action will start with the first stage at 8.45am.
The event is a qualifying round of five championships - the REIS Get Connected MSA Asphalt Rally Championship, the King of Epynt supported by Collins Developments, as well as the Steve Harkness Competition Tyres Welsh National Tarmarcadam Championship, and the ANWCC Stage Rally Championship. And due to their popularity, we will also have classes for Historic Cars.
A top quality entry has been received, with over 80 entries so far. The provisional top ten is as follows:
1. Damian Cole & Tim Strula / Ford Focus WRC
2. Steve Simpson & Patrick Walsh / Subaru Impreza
3. Peter Lloyd & Carl Sorensen / Subaru Impreza
4. Paul Bird & TBC / Ford Focus WRC
5. John Indri & Peter James / Darrian T90
6. Eian Pritchard & Steve McPhee / Ford Focus WRC
7. Ashley Field & Ian Taylor / Darrian T90
8. Ray Horton & Paul Wakely / Darrian T90
9. Washington James & Paul Williams / Darrian T90
10. Bob Fowden & Elgan Davies / Subaru Impreza
First of the Escorts away will be Kevin Davies & Steven Hicks at number 15, followed in similar cars by Graham Hollis, Roger Hicks, Ian Kenvin and Anton Shaw. The Entry List can be downloaded from here.
There will be one main spectator entrance, which must be accessed from the A40 via Llywel to Dixies Corner. From here spectators will be able to access a variety of stages with a choice of viewing points and action. There will be toilet and catering facilities available. There is a second spectator entrance, which can be accessed from the A483 via Llanwrtyd Wells and Tirabad. The use of these spectator areas is strongly recommended by the organising committee for best viewing and to avoid causing obstructions to the running of the event. Please follow all signage and marshals instructions.
Please note that there will be no access onto the Epynt Ranges via Sennybridge and the surrounding villages due to PR problems. Spectators will not be allowed into FIBUA (The German Village) by order of the military.
A spectator map and timings can be downloaded from here. This is an updated version to correct a mistake in the original version. Spectator programmes, which include full stage maps and viewing point locations, will be sold for £10 per car. Money raised will be donated to Breast Cancer Care and other local charities. Money raised from spectator donations on last year’s Mewla has been donated to Wales Air Ambulance, Beulah Young Farmers Club and Ysgol Dolafon, Llanwrtyd Wells.
The event will finish at approximately 4.30pm at the Royal Welsh Showground where the awards presentation and champagne celebrations will be held.

Epynt Motor Club Ltd look forward to welcoming you to the 2013 Eventsigns Mewla Rally, to be held on Sunday 25th August on the Epynt Ranges.
This year it will be a round of the REIS – Get Connected MSA Asphalt Rally Championship, the King of Epynt supported by Collins Developments, as well as the Steve Harkness Competition Tyres Welsh National Tarmarcadam Championship, and the ANWCC Stage Rally Championship. And due to their popularity, we will also have classes for Historic Cars.
The rally will once again be based at the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells, where the excellent facilities will be used for Rally Headquarters, scrutineering and documentation. Total mileage will be approximately 170 miles, of which approximately 80 miles will form special stages. A recce of the stages will be held the previous day, for seeded crews only.
We are again indebted to our sponsor, Vaughan Allcock, of Eventsigns who has been involved with the event for nearly 30 years, and also the support we receive from Robin Stark of Field Fare Catering, who has also been associated with the club for many years.
Regulations can be downloaded from here and Entry Form here or from the Entries Secretaries, Keith and Trina Edwards, Tel 01982 551246 or email mewla.rally©virgin.net.
