The final round of the Oakvale Motors Autotest Championship was held on Sunday 18th December at the Royal Welsh Showground. Entry numbers have been very good for all of the 2011 championship with a mixture of regular, new and some returning competitors from years passed.
Once again there was a high entry with seventeen drivers starting the eight tests, which were run using some long sections of the Showground.
Nic Powell had bought himself a nice shiny Saxo to compete in, leaving Gary with the old Mini which developed some power loss during the day.
Craig, Rosie and Graham all driving a Peugeot 306 retired along with Martin driving his Corsa, which bust a cv joint and lost drive.
Jeff Hope-Davies retired with I think possibly some brake problems.
Ian Williams was almost out when his gearbox failed on about the 5th test but John and Martin came to his rescue lending him their Civic to finish the day.
The poor little Renault Clio driven by Sam Davies, Ieuan Orford and Martin Lasper was overheating and blowing steam out of the radiator. With the bonnet having fallen off earlier the Clio now resembled Ivor the Engine with steam shooting up at least 4ft in the air, but remarkably it finished the day.
Even with a lot of retired drivers we still had twelve finishers, top four being 4th Ryan Davies, 3rd Martin Read, 2nd Nic Powell and first place John Read.
Thanks to all those who competed during 2011, may the high entry numbers continue.
