Bill Gwynne Rallyschool and Motorsport Coracle Stages 2008Carmarthen and Epynt Motor Clubs are again co-promoting the Bill Gwynne Rallyschool and Motorsport Coracle Stages 2008, which will be held on Sunday 27th July 2008. The rally will once again return to the Sweet Lamb Complex, with scrutineering, servicing and the finishing ceremony all situated within the popular Mid Wales test venue. We will be allowing pace notes this year, an order form can be downloaded from here . Whilst the event will run entirely on private land and cars will not need to be taxed for the event, a short portion of public highway will be used between the service area and the start and accordingly cars should be taxed in order to traverse this section. The intention is to again promote a compact, no frills event, offering approximately 40 loose surface stage miles with a central service area. The format has proved popular with both competitors and spectators in the past and the rally earned the prestigious awards of best event in the 2003 and 2006 WAMC Clubmans Forestry Rally championship and also the 2003 ASWMC Loose Surface Stage Championship. The event will be a round of the following 2008 stage rally championships: Millers Oils Welsh Clubmans Forest Rally Brian Dennis Motorsport Welsh Historic Rally Munden’s Minibuses ASWMC Loose Surface Stage Rally ANWCC Forest Stage Rally ANWCC Ladies Rally ANWCC Allrounders Rally Regulations can be downloaded from here and the entry form from here Please contact the Entries Secretary Alun Probert (telephone 01982 552999 or mobile 07814 129485) or the Secretary of the Meeting John Butler-Jenkins (telephone 01267 232601) for further information. Autotest Round 4 - June 1stEpynt Motor Club held the fourth round of their autotest championship last weekend. The new venue of Penmaenau Farm, Builth Wells, provided eight demanding timed tests which were held on mixed surfaces of tarmac, gravel and grass. From the top quality of entrants, the front wheel drive class and overall winner was local driver Ian Williams from Builth Wells driving a Rover 216. Just six seconds behind in second place was Sam Davies from Eardisley, driving a Peugeot 205. In third place was Martin Read also in a Peugeot 205. The rear wheel drive class was won by Peter Jones from Llandovery driving his Jago Special. Craig Golder’s BMW had a persistent misfire all morning. The problem got worse after test five so he called it a day after some spectacular sideways driving. The last test to decide the winner proved to be a bit embarrassing for Sam Davies who on maximum attack had a huge slide into a gate and gate post. Colin (which one of you had taken my bed sheets) Morris was on the radio immediately with the message that the Peugeot would go no further. The car was pushed out of the way to straighten the gate that now looked the shape of a banana. A heavy weight was needed to put on the gate but Ashley had only just gone home to babysit so plan B was put into action. With help from Roger (teach me how to cook) Stevens in charge, ten people jumped up and down on the gate and after Brian Jones drove over it with his Daihatsu to straighten it out some more it was almost like new apart from it being a different colour of galvanised and red. So, all in all a good day’s motorsport and a superb venue which we’ll hopefully be able to use again after signing a damage declaration. Many thanks to Gwyn Penmaenau and family for the hire of the venue and all who helped to marshal.
